  3. Make your refund policy very clear: kindly explain that you will surely make a 100% refund IF the item is not delivered AFTER the end of the delivery period you’ve promised. If you wrote it on your product page that the item will be delivered in 30-45 days, the buyer will ONLY get a refund from you in case the package is not there by the 46th day!

5. Find AliExpress products with fast shipping

As you probably know, AliExpress free shipping is usually the longest one. Other shipping methods are not an option since they cost several times more than the product itself. However, AliExpress delivery time depends on the location of the warehouse.

Where does AliExpress ship from? Most goods come from different locations in China. But some sellers keep some of their products in warehouses located in European countries and the US. If you order products from one of them, shipping can take just 5-15 days.

So, if you want to dropship goods to America, try looking for products with cheap or free shipping from a US warehouse.

6. Use alternative suppliers

Some entrepreneurs who are not happy with AliExpress shipping time may want to try other dropshipping suppliers with faster delivery. If you own an AliDropship or WooCommerce store, consider trying Sellvia.

When you run a dropshipping store, it’s easy to fall into the trap of being active 24/7 – like, you know, checking your inbox as soon as you are awake, handling an order return in the middle of a family dinner, staying super late to do some stuff in the store, etc.

Mobile technologies make it possible to work flexibly from any place and at any time, indeed. Unfortunately, some people think it means they should be managing an online store all day round to cover as many tasks as possible.

Please don’t.

Rule #1 is to organize your day in a way that lets you have enough free time that is NOT dedicated to your business at all. Remember that you don’t run this business to make yourself exhausted and burnt out; quite the opposite, you launched your store to make money in an easy and enjoying way, right?

What does a dropshipping entrepreneur do every day?

So, what’s the proper way of running an online store? My working day starts with checking my inbox.

When I look at my emails, I concentrate on the following types of letters:

  • Changes to orders

It happens a lot in ecommerce. A person places an order, pays for it, and then says, ‘Hey, look, I changed my mind, I still want this T-shirt, but in a different color. And a different size, too. And oh, can you also add a pair of sunglasses to my order?’…

It might seem tricky at first, but you get used to it soon. It’s really important to discover these letters in time. If you haven’t transferred the order to your AliExpress supplier yet, you can easily make the necessary changes.

And even if the order was already processed, it’s no big deal. You still can fix it by contacting the supplier directly and describing the query if you act immediately.

  • Refund letters

It’s not uncommon for buyers to change their minds completely, and that’s another part of ecommerce business management. For whatever reason, they may feel that they don’t want the item anymore, and cancel the whole order. Why not? They have the right to.

Alternatively, a refund letter can come from a customer who is tired from waiting for the delivery and thinks that the package is lost, or from a buyer who is not happy with the quality of an already received order.

In any case, these letters require my close attention and careful work that always starts with contacting the original seller on AliExpress.

  • Payment confirmations

Oh, here comes the most interesting part of managing your online store.

I check the tiniest details of all the PayPal and Stripe payments because, you know, stuff happens.

The thing is, payments made with the help of credit cards can sometimes turn out to be a fraud attempt. This is why I perform a very careful check to make sure that:

  1. My buyer’s name (the name of the addressee) is the same as the name of the card holder
  2. The country of delivery is the same as the country of the card holder’s residence
  3. There were not more than 3 payment attempts made from different credit cards

What if the payment was successfully processed but personal details don’t match? In this case, I email this customer and ask to send their ID to make sure this purchase was legitimate. But what if there were attempts to use several different cards to process the payment and all of them were declined? I normally cancel the order because this purchasing behavior is typical for fraudsters.

Given that I run over 20 dropshipping stores, I have to do tons of work sorting all these emails out. On average, it takes me about 4 hours per day to go through all of the letters and to take the necessary actions.

And here I’m talking about a normal, ordinary day when I only have to process about 50-60 orders. When it’s pre-holiday time, online shopping activity rises and the amount of purchases goes up like crazy. So, the workload obviously gets heavier. That’s the thing you need to consider when you get your store prepared for any holiday season.

As a dropshipping store manager, I have this really curious element of my daily routine related to order fulfillment. To be more specific, it’s all about checking the customers’ mailing details before transferring them to the relevant AliExpress seller.

During this part of the day, I:

  • Check the spelling of the addressee’s name and surname

You won’t believe this, but yes, people make spelling mistakes in their own names and surnames.

Fun fact: you won’t even notice it if your customer is a foreigner and you have no idea about the most common names in this country.

This is why it’s important to have some knowledge about your target audience, or at least do a little online research and check the spelling of unfamiliar names.

Obviously, this is not the only thing that can get mixed up 🙂

  • Check the ZIP code

Obviously, I can’t possibly know any person’s ZIP code, but there are cases when I’m 100% sure that the details are incorrect.

Some people just leave this field blank.

Some people write their phone numbers in this field.

How do I know it’s a phone number or just a wrong combination? I try to learn the ZIP code formats for the regions where my customers come from. If I know, for example, that this area should have a ZIP code that looks like SW1A 1NH (7 digits, 2 numbers, 5 letters), but the provided code is something like 644053 (6 digits, 6 numbers, 0 letters), it’s evident that there is a mistake.

  • Check the ‘Additional Details’ field

For some reason, some people use this field instead of the right one and write their addresses here. I don’t exactly know why anyone would do this, but it doesn’t actually matter – I take a careful look at this field anyway.

Rule #2 is to pay attention. If anything seems questionable to me, I simply write an email to the customer and ask him or her to confirm the shipping details, or to submit them once again.

This time-consuming, but simple procedure is essential. If I blindly submit incorrect shipping details to an AliExpress seller, it will most likely result in delivery troubles.


I could share lots of tips on how to run an online store, but most of this information (including small details) can be found in other articles on our blog. So, I’m going to give you two general recommendations on selling products.

  • Advertise your goods on social media

You can find dozens of online selling tips on AliDropship’s blog that explain how to find popular products, how to drive traffic to your shop with SEO, tips on using Google Ads and other tools, content marketing, etc. The team and I use all these methods, but most sales still come from social media, and particularly from Facebook.

Why are social media so efficient?

Partially, it’s because certain networks have very large audiences, which makes it easier to find customers among them. Partially, it’s because social media have turned into shopping destinations. People are not just used to seeing ads in their feeds. Often they expect to see an ad, find an interesting product, and buy it.

  • Email marketing

Another great way to raise sales is to send emails to previous buyers and new leads. On the one hand, the revenue from this channel may be much lower than what you earn from other sources. On the other hand, email marketing is mostly used in remarketing, which is very cost-efficient.

When you advertise goods to a new audience, these people are unfamiliar with your business and products. But if somebody left you his or her email, this person is more willing to get letters from you and buy goods.

So, sending emails should be part of your dropshipping routine, too. As for what kind of letters you should write, here’s the list of the most popular email types:

  • Product updates: tell potential customers about new arrivals.
  • Sales notifications: tell customers about upcoming sales or discounts.
  • Abandoned cart notifications: remind previous website visitors about the products they wanted to buy before leaving the site.

You don’t have to send these letters every day. Two or three times a week should be enough. Moreover, you can create email templates to save time.

After I sort out all the emails for today, I go ahead with the core part of managing an online store: order processing.

As you can guess, this procedure doesn’t take much time because the plugin does it all automatically. All I need to do is click the ‘Place Order’ button, and basically, that’s it. The system does all the rest. After the supplier sends me the tracking ID, the plugin automatically grabs this data and connects it to the order details.

After this, I only need to change the order status to ‘Shipped’, and the client will automatically receive the email notification about the successful shipment and the tracking ID. Given the amount of work I need to do manually every day, this is a huge time saver, obviously.

Once a week, I calculate the net profit: overall revenue minus advertising expenses minus the cost of ordered items.

These details are valuable for our Internet marketing specialists because such data influences the product policy, the ads targeting, the amount of money spent on promotion, etc. I am not directly involved in the creation of promotional strategies; still, I can sometimes give a piece of advice to marketers when it comes to one specific store we run.

Mostly, it refers to single product pages – when you import new products from AliExpress, the titles and descriptions you get are not perfect at all. This is why it is necessary to take some time and edit everything that doesn’t look good.

Also, don’t forget about search engine optimization – keep it in mind when you’re editing the pages’ content. You won’t see immediate results, but in the long run, these efforts will give your more benefits than you can imagine.

2. What are the costs of running and managing a dropshipping store?

Oh, no one can tell you how much dropshipping management operations will cost you.

Let’s think of all the possible costs you might have in this business:

  • Hosting payment – sorry, you just can’t go without it.
  • First orders payment – you need to order an item on AliExpress to get it delivered to your customer. So, at the beginning of your dropshipping journey you will spend your money first to get later paid by your customer.
  • Marketing activities – everything is up to you here. Maybe you will launch a full-scale campaign that will cost you hundreds of dollars, and maybe you will simply install some promotional plugin like Social Rabbit.

As you can see, it’s impossible to predict the amount of your expenses. No one defines it but you!

3. What should I do when I receive an order?

Step one: get excited.

Step two: go to the Orders section and click the “Place order automatically” button.

The AliDropship plugin will visit AliExpress and create an order for you automatically. It will select necessary product variations, add items to your shopping cart and fill in your customer’s shipping details on the checkout page. You will just need to click confirm button to complete a purchase.

Alternatively, you can place the order manually by clicking the “Place order manually” button.

4. Will the cost of an item on AliExpress be deducted from my PayPal account?

AliExpress doesn’t support PayPal as a payment method which is why you can’t use your PayPal account to pay for purchases on

In other words, the cost of an item won’t be deducted from your PayPal account. Instead, while placing an order on AliExpress, you can use one of the payment methods supported by the platform. The most commonly used ones are Visa and MasterCard credit cards, as well as Visa, Maestro, and American Express debit cards.

5. Does the plugin import the shipping costs or do I have to add shipping options to my products?

The AliDropship Plugin doesn’t import items’ shipping costs.

We highly recommend offering your customers a free shipping service by taking advantage of the free/low-cost shipping offered by many AliExpress sellers. However, the Plugin has a special section where you can enable or disable different shipping options.

You can add up to four different shipping options (including free shipping) to any or all products.

6. Are the customers able to create an account on my website?

Yes, your clients can get the option to create a personal account on your website.

This account gives your customers the opportunity to store their contact and shipping details, check the list of products they purchased, and track the status of any order.

7. Will the customer receive a tracking number? How can our customers track their orders?

Once you placed an order on AliExpress and your supplier shipped an item, you get your tracking ID.

The plugin will automatically collect this tracking data and add it to your order details.

Please note: you need to be logged in to your AliExpress account and your AliDropship orders section to activate this tracking auto-filling option.

8. How can I know if the package was delivered to the customer?

If there’s a tracking number available, you can easily track the package delivery.

With this tracking ID provided by the AliExpress supplier, you can check if the customer received an item.

9. My customer didn’t receive the order. What should I do?

First of all, stay calm and don’t panic.

Unfortunately, this happens. And it’s another part of your regular dropshipping management operations.

Maybe something went wrong within the postal service, or the customer provided a wrong address, or a seller is shady (did you choose the seller carefully?). You’ll figure it out later, but right now it’s not the first priority.

Secondly, apologize.

Whatever happened, it can all be fixed. Your behavior and personal attitude will help a lot to solve this issue.

If your client did not receive the order or is not satisfied with his purchase, you should follow AliExpress Buyers Protection Policy.

We recommend talking to the seller first. Go on AliExpress, open the “My Orders” page, select the faulty order and write a private message to the seller. The seller should respond quickly and offer different solutions to fix it. The reputation of the sellers is rather exposed and they are willing to do anything to maintain their feedback rating.

10. How will I handle refunds?

One of the reasons why AliExpress is perfect for the dropshipping model is its good protection system with a full money-back guarantee.

So, if your customer is not satisfied with a product and asks you for a refund, you should dispute the purchase with the AliExpress seller.

If you are selling inexpensive products, your AliExpress suppliers usually refund you quickly and don’t ask you to return the items. They don’t want to waste their energy on managing disputes and receiving returns for relatively low-value items. You can read about it more in our interview with an actual AliExpress seller.

As a result, you can give a full or partial refund to your customer through PayPal without asking them to return the product. This is why we recommend that you don’t spend all your earned money at once – keep a small fund just to be safe.

Hi, I am Vladimir, born and raised in Ukraine. I’ve been working online for over 12 years and making money from online marketing and advertising on the Internet. 3 years ago I also started my own dropshipping business.

Can you tell why and how you started your business in Ukraine with the dropshipping model?

I chose the dropshipping business model because it’s one of the few ecommerce strategies that lets you make decent profit without experience and spending much time and money. My education is technical and I wasn’t taught how to be a businessman. But my long history of doing digital marketing was more than enough to help me start.

I first heard about dropshipping quite a long time ago but didn’t initially consider it as a serious business. It was only in 2017 when I changed my mind after I came across some AliDropship materials explaining how this business model works. I liked that there are instruments that make dropshippers’ life easier and a qualified support service that helps a lot. The knowledge base was also detailed and priceless for a beginner with no experience. So that’s what convinced me to try it.

How did your dropshipping journey begin?

My first dropshipping sale happened in 2 days after my store started working. It was a client from the USA who bought a multifunctional screwdriver set. My net income from this order was almost $20. I was really happy and satisfied with it.

In fact I did nothing extraordinary or complicated to achieve this first sale. All that I did was buy a domain, pay for hosting, import products from using the free extension from AliDropship and post links to these products on social networks. And the result was not long in coming.

What is your product strategy?

When I was choosing business niches, the most important things for me were the products’ demand, popularity and price. Now I constantly monitor to see new arrivals and add them to my stores if I like them. I pay attention to suppliers’ rating, number of orders and customer reviews when I choose products. A reliable and proven supplier is very important if you want the business to work well.

Usually I double prices and get a 100% price markup. But sometimes it’s less than 100%: I compare final prices to Amazon and eBay prices and try to make them not very high.

How do you manage your business on a daily basis?

I spend 1-2 hours every day on management. Mostly I spend this time to create interesting video reviews for my products. Sometimes there are business tasks that demand a lot of time and I look for solutions to help me complete them quicker. For example I use AliDropship plugin, Social Rabbit plugin, Google Merchant and Facebook Business. These instruments are of great help when I need to import new products, create ad materials and see detailed analytics on store visits, sales and profits.

How do you promote your stores?

When I started my business I was placing paid ads in Google Merchant and Facebook. Now I try to step away from paid advertisements. I mainly promote my stores through social media: Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and some others. Mostly I post video reviews of the products on social media. And I have a very diverse target audience. Even my returning customers are people from different countries, of different ages and genders.

How do you deal with difficult customers if there are any?

I set up my business in a way that minimizes customers’ complaints. So buyers don’t usually have any problems with their orders.

There was a difficult case last year. A person mixed my store with some other store where he previously bought something and got scammed. So he wrote to me and demanded to return his money and insisted on it even after I explained that he’s wrong. He then wrote a complaint to PayPal but PayPal didn’t take any actions on me because I truly never received any payments from this person. And he even wanted to sue PayPal after this!

I asked him to make a screenshot of his payment with the name of the product he bought. After he sent it to me, I typed the name of his product in Google search. From the search results, I selected several sites with products matching the product name from the screenshot and sent them to him. I asked him to look at them and remember which one he really bought. In a few days, he wrote to me and said that he really was wrong and apologized a lot.

Did you register your online business officially?

Yes, my business is 100% legal. I registered it in the USA, in Wyoming. There are simple requirements, especially if you are a non-resident. Now I only have to pay the registration fee and the payment for intermediary service. It is about $200 per year.

After you started a business, how has your life changed?

In many ways! First of all, I earn more now. I am not dependent on a fixed workplace, I have no boss, I plan my free and working time on my own, and I am emotionally satisfied with this business.

I plan to keep working on the business, develop it further and improve my sales and profits. Also I am thinking about new strategies that I can try to promote my products better.

My family helps me run the business and my friends are also interested. They constantly ask how it’s going but none of them have yet decided to start their own business.

My name is Hogan Chua, I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I went to University after high school to study accounting and finance cause that was the “path”. So I realised that there was an opportunity on YouTube for me to create a video to show people how to make a WordPress website and monetize with web hosting.

And that’s where it all started.

I guess the moral of the story is that you have to start from somewhere and eventually you will see the opportunities. Once you see that opportunity, you have to take the leap.

How did you learn about AliDropship products and its ecommerce affiliate program?

I stumbled across AliDropship when I wanted to start dropshipping just to test some products for a new ecommerce venture. So I was looking for a plugin that could add that functionality to my WordPress website.

So I looked at a few options and finally ended up purchasing AliDropship plugin.

At first, I was a bit skeptical about the plugin and whether it would work well or not.

Although I love WordPress, themes, and plugins, sometimes they don’t work well together or aren’t easy to set up and use.

Surprisingly, AliDropship was super easy to use and importing products from AliExpress was a breeze – much better than I expected.

At that time, there were so many Shopify tutorials on dropshipping using Oberlo, but none on WordPress. So since it was a great product, I knew other people would appreciate it too and that inspired me to create a video on it.

So then I signed up for the AliDropship Affiliate program and it was a breeze too.

How do you rate your experience of participating in this ecommerce affiliate program?

There are lots of things I like about AliDropship affiliate program:

  • The commissions: they are among the highest ones
  • A very simple and easy dashboard to track commissions
  • The opportunity to create deep links (i.e linking to other pages)
  • A great product means conversions are quite good
  • Julia, my affiliate manager has been a pleasure to work with, answering all concerns I had very promptly

But overall, what I love about AliDropship is their great documentation, helpful guides, resources, additional services, plugins, themes and anything that helps people to create a better dropshipping store.

This was the thing that impressed me the most because not many WordPress plugins do this. And I’m not saying this because I’m an affiliate – you can see for yourself 🙂

Do you participate in other ecommerce affiliate programs? What’s your average income?

Yes, I also promote some web hosting, several WordPress themes, SEO software, numerous digital/virtual products. Plus, I’m a member of Amazon Associates.

Generally, summing up all the affiliate programs I’m a part of (including AliDropship), it would be over 5 figures per month or so on average. Right now, it’s on the lower end and hopefully working up to mid-5 figures by end of the year.

But the great thing about it, is that my commissions are paid in USD – so a conversion to Australian Dollars (AUD) is around x1.35. One of the great things about affiliate marketing is that you could be living in Asia or a country where cost of living is cheaper and earn USD!

How exactly do you promote these products? What’s your advice for fellow affiliates?

The main strategy I use to promote the products is to create videos on YouTube. Also, I create content for my website and blog. Videos and articles both work well together. But if you are starting out, choose ONE medium and focus on that.

If you like writing and don’t want to be on camera, then create a blog.

If you don’t like writing, then make videos. You don’t even have to show your face! If you are doing tutorials, reviews, you can use something like Camtasia (PC software) and Screenflow (Mac software) for screen recordings.

Overall, do videos if you can because there’s a lot of opportunity there – simply because most people don’t want to put themselves out there.

There are tons of videos teaching a ton of affiliate marketing strategies, but definitely I would recommend either one of those two. The reason is, both primary traffic sources come via search. And every day there is a consistent amount of people searching for things.  That’s how affiliate marketing can be fairly passive!

If you compare this to promoting via social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook etc., those can work, too, but not as passive channels. They are more one-off and it’s not as natural to promote your links to your audience everyday.

If your primary focus is monetizing through some ecommerce affiliate program, then I would recommend creating how-to videos, reviews, comparisons, and top-10 selections. These types of content are great because it’s a few steps away from the purchasing.

Of course, you can create other types of content, too, that may work well for audience building/traffic – it’s really up to you. This is also one of the pros of affiliate marketing: you can be super creative.

How do you research your target audience to connect with it better?

  • First, I deal with my own problems that can be solved with the products I’m promoting
  • I read the YouTube comments/emails I receive
  • I look at questions people ask on Quora, Reddit, or niche forums

These are the three main ways, and I definitely recommend trying to solve your own problems first. It’s the easiest and best way because 80% of the time your audience is facing the same problems as you.

You can create a simple user profile on Milanote. It helps to know what you should include in your video, what to talk about and what questions you can address in your content.

Being an affiliate marketer, treat your content as your product. Just as if you were to open a restaurant, your main product would be the food. So if you know your customers, you can tailor your menu to the food they love.

It’s very simple, but I think most people probably don’t think about it this way. Rather, they just think about the commissions. But it’s the content that gives you commissions! And to create great content, you need to understand the users/readers/viewers.

What are the most difficult challenges of being an affiliate marketer?

The most challenging thing about affiliate marketing is definitely staying focused. Since a lot of time is spent on the computer researching, writing, testing, there can be a lot of distractions.

And especially because I’m normally working alone, without much schedule, it’s very easy to work a bit, go out and come back.

To deal with this, I try to get to sleep a bit earlier. I also downloaded some Chrome extensions to block YouTube Home screen and Facebook. I’m still working on this, but I think once I do, it will make the biggest difference.

Due to COVID-19, we recently came out of a very long 112 day lockdown where we were limited to just travelling within 5kms. That was tough. But I know a lot of others who have had it much tougher, so can’t complain much. Luckily, now the cases are under control here and hopefully we can get a vaccine soon. Then we can all get back to “normal” in mid-2021.

In terms of income, the pandemic didn’t make too much difference. Luckily, I could keep working. The thing that it made me realise was that I was fortunate to learn these skills. And it just gave me more overall clarity of what I want to do in the future.

How much time does it take you every day to manage your ecommerce affiliate programs?

I don’t really track how much time I spend on my online business. I probably should, though, to start working more efficiently and to be more productive.

But generally, for a half of the day (around 10-12+ hours), I’m probably doing something related to it. It can be researching, testing, recording, editing, strategizing, reading, watching useful videos on different topics or doing some general accounting and paperwork, etc.

The biggest demand on time is going to be the content.

It’s kind of funny, though. One of the main reasons to get into affiliate marketing for me was the passive income and the chance not to do much work. And I think that is probably on a lot of people’s mind, so I want to touch on this.

What I’ve learned over time and getting older, travelling and doing the things I thought I wanted, it’s not about working less anymore. Rather, it’s about progression, creating something amazing/helpful and enjoying the process of it. It becomes almost like a game, a sport.

Could you please share an image of what your desk or workspace looks like?

I have two main workspaces. I try to move around a bit because working at the same place can get uninspiring at times. The first picture is my home office and the second one is my living area desk.


I hope everything gets back to normal soon, so I can travel back to Asia: I love the weather and food there.

How has your life changed?

Honestly, I’ve never had a “real” full-time job so I don’t know what it feels like to work in an office type of environment. I only worked part-time as a waiter at my dad’s restaurant during high school and university. So, if we were to compare it with being a waiter, the biggest difference is that because of being able to make money online, you can make money 24/7/365 and work from anywhere. No commute to work. My own schedule!

Most of my family/friends have no idea what it is I do exactly. I don’t really mind, and I’d rather be low key anyways. I remember at a time, I felt pressure to find a job and that people didn’t believe me. But looking back, it’s a good pressure to have and it’s very natural when you are trying something a bit different. All the enemies you have are just in your own mind.

What’s your advice for our readers – those who have already signed up for some ecommerce affiliate program and those who are considering it?

My advice for those who are considering it is that affiliate marketing is like a sport. It will take time to get good at it and to start earning a decent amount per month. So don’t expect it to be a get-rich-quick scheme. Don’t worry about finding the perfect niche, perfect product to promote: it takes trial and error.

If you already are part of an ecommerce affiliate program and want to see better results, focus on creating the best content you can, something new, unique. Instead of trying to write 10 articles, focus on just 1. The same is true for videos: instead of 10, focus on 1. Make it to the best of your ability because to make commissions, you need to be ranking on the first page. And bad content isn’t going to rank well – hence, no traffic and no commissions.

Doing the hard things, putting in the time and effort is the shortcut to success.

Hi, I’m Sam, a web designer from New Zealand. Oh, and I also play guitar in a metal band.

What’s your story of starting a business with no experience?

It has all begun with some random YouTube ad I saw about dropshipping. The idea seemed interesting to me: the lower risk meant there was no reason not to try. So I started googling further, and discovered AliDropship plugin, and that’s basically the whole story 🙂

At the beginning, obviously, I had web design experience as that’s my core profession, but no ecommerce knowledge or background whatsoever. In this context, the WooCommerce plugin of course, was a game changer. It’s simply vital to the business, it would not be possible otherwise to even start it.

How does your business perform now?

I keep running 1 WooCommerce store only, and here’s what it made in the first 6 months of its operation:

Quite unexpectedly, I got the first few sales quickly – it was really surprising. I think the reason is, I just found a good product range. Actually, I belong to my own target audience, too 🙂 That’s why I can easily sort out the products that I would use and enjoy myself.

In general, my strategy is to find some products with a growing demand for them, and become their ‘early seller’ in my target region. Probably, the pricing approach helps winning more customers, too – I just go about a 50% margin. Every now and then, I add more products to keep my offer relevant – what’s also crucial, it helps with SEO a lot. While evaluating and choosing AliExpress sellers to partner with, I pay the closest attention to their speed of shipping and communication rating.

How do you promote your store?

As I mentioned, SEO is an important business aspect in my case. I rank well now in Google, but organic traffic is not my only source of buyers. I also run some Google Ads and Facebook Ads to reach more specific customer audiences. Per month, it costs me about $500-$1,000 on average to advertise the business.

Is there anything special in terms of daily store management when you’re starting a business with no experience?

With the right software, technically speaking, it’s not really time-consuming even if you don’t have previous experience. It only takes me about 1-2 hours per day to manage my store, and I mostly spend it on order processing and sorting out clients’ enquiries.

Human factor matters a lot, at the same time. It’s just fascinating how differently people can react to issues like delays. Some are lovely and endlessly understanding and others are not! That’s why I’d say that managing shipping time expectations is the biggest challenge I have to face as a business owner. I have to state shipping times very clearly and have a set of policies published on my website to help me out with this part. If there’s an issue with shipping, I just use these guidelines to explain what’s going on. But sometimes, of course, I have to offer discounts if delivery takes way too long and the customer is unhappy.

How has your life changed?

I’m a business owner now – I registered it officially, and thankfully, there aren’t many requirements for me (mostly, simply declare my income for tax purposes). There’s certainly a lot more freedom! I only work 2 days at my regular job now. My friends and family are supportive, and my plans to tour Europe with my band start seeming more real 🙂

It’s very worthwhile even if it takes some hard work!
