Some Entrepreneurs Make These Dropshipping Mistakes. What About You?

Running a dropshipping store is engaging and entertaining.

While bringing you an impressive profit, this business is relatively easy to manage – still, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing much to improve and enhance now and then!

If you browse the Web, you’ll see that it’s quite a common cry for help: “I just got a dropshipping store and I see no sales. What’s wrong?

What’s wrong, indeed? Let’s take a look at the most common dropshipping mistakes that store owners make. As a BONUS, we’ll give you simple action plans to help you fix them!

Dropshipping mistake #1: Doing nothing

Oh, that’s the easiest way out, right? It sounds really tempting to create or to buy an online store, and to simply wait until someone stumbles upon it, gets interested, and makes a purchase. Passive income, yay!

In the real world, it doesn’t always happen.

No promotion means no sales, and no sales means no profit.

If no money and effort is invested into the dropshipping store promotion, it will just stay there dead as a rock – a professionally developed, smoothly working, beautifully designed, but completely unused website that brings no income.

That’s exactly what happened to Alex – after he got a dropshipping store, he just put it aside. In a month, though, it became clear it’s time to start doing something. Trying an ever-changing mix of promotional techniques, he gained an impressive audience of loyal customers and, as the result, sold one of his stores for a breathtaking profit.

Your action plan: Read these real-life stories on what it takes to make the first online sale, and follow these tips to achieve your first sale faster. This list of free traffic sources that can drive more visitors on your website will be helpful, too!

Dropshipping mistake #2: Taking a too broad niche

To be honest, we’ve all been here. Choosing the perfect dropshipping niche is not easy at all.

Even the successful dropshippers who have a huge experience in the field definitely had troubles with the niche choice at some point of their business journey. The case of Mousslim is a shining example – even though his dropshipping business brings him dozens of thousands of dollars every month, his very first niche was a really bad choice. That’s why it’s vital to deeply know the niche and to be genuinely interested in it!

The saddest dropshipping mistake that can be made at this point is going for a VERY broad niche.

Let’s take ‘Clothes’, for example. If ‘Clothes’ is the niche AND the main keyword, the store owner is definitely going to have a bad time. No doubts, he (or she) will find thousands of matching items on AliExpress, and will gladly upload them on the website. Then what? What to do next?

From the point of view of SEO optimization, the ‘Clothes’ niche is hopeless. An extreme competition, a vague keyword – none of this is good for a webstore. Even carefully targeted Instagram ads won’t help much.

Your action plan: Take a look here to see how to work in the apparel niche, and use the same approach for any other niche you choose. Don’t hesitate to ask us for a deep niche research if you need expert assistance!

Dropshipping mistake #3: Having no knowledge about the target audience

Customers are the driving force of any online store growth.

That’s why it’s absolutely vital to know as much about them as possible! A familiar customer segment means a lot for the success of the whole business.

A serious dropshipping mistake that can be made on this stage is going with blind guesses.

It happens when dropshipping store owners don’t rely on any researches, statistical data from their own stores, or actual clients’ feedback. They have some general idea about the people who might want to buy from them, and they just don’t go any further.

It leads to absolutely weird marketing decisions. As a rule, such actions take lots of time, money, and energy, but bring little to no results.

Your action plan: Check out these 3 ways to identify your target audience, and apply them to your business. To make your promotional messages well-targeted at a proper audience, consider ordering video ads and ads packages for Facebook and Instagram that go together with recommended audience settings.

Dropshipping mistake#4: Choosing poor marketing tactics

If dropshipping store owners know nothing about their customers and don’t understand the market (this is why it’s so important to be passionate about the chosen niche!), strange things start happening.

  • Store is promoted to everyone. The marketer does nothing to narrow down the target audience and just goes through Web shouting about the store. Lots of time and energy (and money) goes into attracting the wrong people. They just don’t have the slightest relation to the store and show no interest towards the offers.
  • Ads are placed on unsuitable channels. The marketer makes no research and randomly promotes the offers through all the media imaginable. As you can guess, the efforts are mostly put into absolutely fruitless channels that bring no return.
  • Store is promoted through 1-2 channels only. The marketer relies on a few channels and uses them over and over again, not willing to try anything else. It’s good if these channels work well; but what if other ones work even better?
  • No tests are performed. To see if a new channel will be beneficial for a dropshipping store promotion, it is necessary to try it several times with different settings, different audience segments, and different product categories. If there are no tests, it’s impossible to say which channel works the best for specific audiences and items.

Your action plan: Use this monumental guide on how to promote your dropshipping store. If you need any professional assistance, there are lots of ways we can help you: look through the list of expert marketing services here.

Dropshipping mistake #5: Using no automatic promotion tools

There’s actually no wonder why dropshippers stick to a few randomly selected promotion channels and rarely use anything extra.

There are only 24 hours in a day.

Even if there is any interest towards the use of some new and awesome strategies and techniques, there simply might be no time for it.

Automated solutions can do the trick; the most useful of them, for example, automatically promote a store in social networks using the owner’s settings and preferences. Unfortunately, ecommerce entrepreneurs tend to overlook such solutions.

Your action plan: Watch this video explaining how to automate your social media marketing efforts without making you look like a spammer. Don’t forget to also check out this handy tutorial on auto-running your Instagram account!

Dropshipping mistake #6: Neglecting SEO

In our experience, there are some people who hardly ever pay attention to search engine optimization.

That’s really sad because SEO constantly works for a store in the long term! Even if the results don’t seem to be immediate, they accumulate over time.

Ideally, SEO should work for the benefit of the webstore since the very moment of the store launch.

In reality, it commonly turns out that store owners don’t even do a keyword research at the planning stage, to say nothing about further product pages optimization and so on.

Your action plan: Follow this SEO ecommerce checklist to see if your online store is properly optimized, and make sure you’re not making any of these critical SEO mistakes! If you assembled your store on your own, without any developers’ or marketers’ help, you might also want to check out this SEO Starter Pack.

Dropshipping mistake #7: Learning no lessons

And this is the most serious dropshipping mistake a store owner can make.

All of our first business steps are shaky – it’s impossible to be 100% confident about things we never tried before.

All the people who nowadays run highly profitable dropshipping stores had some difficulties throughout their way. It’s absolutely fine to have no knowledge about something; it’s not that fine to keep staying unaware of important things.

An awesome feature of dropshipping in particular is the possibility to learn from one’s experience and mistakes. There are tons of helpful ecommerce materials that are available for free, and this is an educational opportunity that you simply can’t miss out on.

Your action plan: Monitor your store performance, gather the clients’ feedback, take free courses, read guides, watch tutorials, attend webinars and exchange experience with other entrepreneurs – this is what helps you grow your business and prosper.

All the experiments, tests, trials and discoveries are the drivers of your online business growth. And you know what’s the best part? You’re not alone on your ecommerce journey 😉

5 Types Of Cross-Selling Products That Will Boost Your Profits

It’s not uncommon to see businesses offer an additional product or service to a customer who has already paid for something. This sales method known as cross-selling is available for dropshipping entrepreneurs, too. In this article, I will explain what cross-selling products you can offer.

What is cross-selling?

Cross-selling is a sales method based on offering complementary goods to customers that want to purchase or have already purchased another product.

Lots of online and offline businesses use this technique to increase their average order value. For example, if you put a winter jacket to the shopping cart in an online store, you may be offered a scarf as a complementary product.

Cross-selling is similar to other techniques, namely upselling and down-selling. Upselling means offering the same product of a higher tier. In simple words, it’s when you offer a better and higher-priced item. Down-selling means offering a product of a lower tier, i.e. simpler and cheaper.

Cross-selling is different in that sellers try to convince customers to purchase a product of a different type. However, cross-selling products must always be related to the original purchase. For example, if I buy a bicycle, I’d be surprised to be offered a computer keyboard as a complementary product.

What can you offer as cross-selling products?

It sounds simple at the first glance, but if you have little experience in marketing, it may be hard to come up with product ideas. What exactly should you offer to new and existing customers to satisfy their needs?

AliDropship’s Ecommerce Department has tested a number of cross-selling ideas on our self-owned dropshipping stores, and now we can share them with you.

1. Same product with a discount

The simplest cross-selling idea is to offer the same product as the original purchase for a lower price. Or, simply speaking, offer customers to buy more at a discount.

The best part of this idea is that you don’t have to search for related goods. However, this technique will not work with just any product. Cross-selling suggests offering something a person may need in addition to the original purchase, but in most cases people don’t need two or three identical items.

“Buy a car and get another one at a discount” – doesn’t it sound weird?

What you need is a product that people often buy in quantities:

  • Goods that you replace regularly like socks, dusters, etc.

cross-selling socks (goods that you replace regularly)

  • Products that easily break down, or get lost, or expire (buttons, batteries, expendable materials).

cross-selling buttons (products that easily get lost)

  • Goods that often come in sets like glasses, dishes, boxes, spoons, etc. Having one or two more won’t hurt.

cross-selling glasses (Goods that often come in sets)

These are just several examples of cross-selling products in this category. In order to make the product really tempting, offer a discount. If a customer wanted to buy two items, he or she would do it without any cross-selling offers. So, to trigger their interest, make the second purchase cheaper.

AliDropship’s Bulk Discounts add-on is just what you need for offers like this. It lets you set volume discounts on identical products bought in quantities.

2. An additional part to the main product

In most cases, sellers offer another product type to complement the original purchase. It goes without saying that they should be related to each other. This particular idea is about offering accessories, components and parts as an addition to the product customers have purchased.

For example, if you sell drills, they probably go with a number of attachments. However, stores also sell stand-alone attachments for narrow tasks. So, why not combine them in a single offer?

cross-selling drill and attachments

Just make sure the two parts can actually work together. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with a lot of angry customers.

3. Cross-selling complement products

Unlike the previous one, cross-selling products in this category cannot be a part of the original product. But they are very closely related: have the same function or can work as a pair.

For example, if a customer orders glasses, it’s a good idea to offer him or her a case, because it perfectly complements the original purchase.

cross-selling glasses and case (complement products)

Gloves will make a great additional product for garden scissors as they can work as a pair. A cloth can complement a cleaning product and so on. Try thinking the following way: the customer wants this product; probably he or she wants to do this; what else can he or she need for it?

4. Same niche product

In this case, you offer products that don’t necessarily have the same or similar function as the initial purchase. Although the two products should still be related, this relevance can be much more general.

For example, if someone wants to buy coffee cups, you can also offer plates or flatware. Or if the buyer wants a flash drive, offer a mouse pad.

cross-selling flash drive and mouse pad (same niche product)

As you can see, these pairs have different functions, and there’s no way to tell if the buyer needs the cross-selling product. Still, one can hope to interest customers as long as the complementary goods are affordable. It’s like the products you see in supermarkets next to the cashier which make you think, ‘Well, why not buy this chocolate bar while I’m waiting in the line?’

5. Similar products of a different form, size, color, etc.

Finally, after purchasing the original product, some customers may agree to buy another, slightly different product of the same kind. Such cross-selling products do not add any functionality but rather expand what customers can do with the original purchase.

For example, if a site visitor orders a set of cookie cutters, one can offer him or her another set of cookie cutters of a different shape. If the client has bought cat-shaped cutters, a set of pony-shaped cutters can make a good addition.

Cross-selling cat and pony cookie cutters (Similar products)

You can also cross-sell a T-shirt with a different print on it, a different colored pen, stickers of a different shape and so on. The purpose here is to increase the variability of the offer, so to speak.

Conclusion

Cross-selling is one of the many marketing and sales techniques along with content marketing, SMM, SEO, PPC, creating good-looking product pages, etc. However, it’s different from them in that it’s aimed not at convincing customers to make a purchase but at making them spend more.

These are the basic types of cross-selling products, and they all have one thing in common: the seller always tries to offer something related to the original purchase. Never forget that such goods must always be relevant, and this technique will bring you additional profit.

AliDropship’s Purchase Upsell offers you the easiest way to benefit from cross-selling products while running your dropshipping business. With this tool, you’ll be able to show complementary products to your customers right after they buy something – and count on the growth of the average order volume!

AliDropship Plugin review: built-in marketing elements

Some necessary marketing tools are also available with the Plugin and include following options:

Email Lists

The Plugin collects not only the emails of your customers but also email of users who leave their emails on your site but did not complete a purchase.

Discount Coupons

Run sales and promotions by offering coupon codes that save customers money. You choose whether the discount is for dollars off, a percentage off, free shipping, etc.

Abandoned Cart

When your store visitors abandon their shopping carts, it means that they leave your website without completing the purchase – but with some items already added to their carts. The best way to recover these abandoned carts is to send these visitors emails encouraging them to go back – and that’s exactly what the Plugin does. You can use a set of pre-loaded professional emails or create and add your own templates.

AliDropship Plugin review: what else is there?

Another great feature of AliDropship Plugin is AliExpress Cashback system. The cashback scheme works as follows: you use a special affiliate link and purchase the desired products. After the products are delivered, part of the cost is returned to you on your affiliate account. Then you can withdraw your money, getting an additional bonus to your main dropshipping source of income.

To activate this system, you just need to register with AliExpress Admitad or AliExpress EPN network, get your affiliate link and place it in the special field on Plugin settings.

Once you get an order, you visit Orders section and click Place Order button. If you setup your cashback URL before, you will be redirected to AliExpress through your affiliate link. You buy an item for your client and automatically get from 7 to 15% commission on your account.

What’s the conclusion? AliDropship Plugin is a wonderful piece of dropshipping automation software that lets you dedicate your precious time to anything you want without compromising your business management! Isn’t that the business opportunity you’ve been looking for?

What Ecommerce Business Owners Should Invest In Right Now

The events so far of 2020 have been really unpredictable. It seems like even a psychic wouldn’t have been able to see what was coming. If you’re the owner of an online retail business, you may have been lucky with not needing to close up your store (if you don’t run any brick-and-mortar stores, that is), but you definitely may have had to make some ecommerce investments into adjusting your business strategy and offerings during this time. Like with restaurants having to move into to-go catering or to-go orders only, businesses always have to adapt to change. Skew your product offering to something more in demand, reposition your brand to align with a change in social belief.

We’re not able to tell you with a 100% accuracy how the retail scene will be like a year from now, but we’re able to take some wide, cautionary steps to adjust to what is currently in demand. Luckily being online, you are able to flex more with your operations, and if you’re in dropshipping, you have an upper hand in pivoting towards different items without being held up with unsold inventory.

Today, let’s take a look at what an online retail business owner should invest in during this time. From products to security and service, we’ll cover some bases and give you examples of the most beneficial ecommerce investments you can make.

Socially responsible ecommerce investments to consider in 2020

Focusing on essential items

As we know, global economies are down, and consumers are being more savvy about their expenditures. Luxury items and nice-to-haves are not at the top of the list for most people right now. Items pertaining to sanitization, personal protection equipment, and well-being are big sellers right now, according to Stackline. Some item categories include:

  • Cleaning supplies
  • Disposable gloves
  • Cough and cold items
  • Computer monitors and accessories
  • Packaged food
  • Weight training equipment

Although we can’t predict how consumer demand will shift in, say, six months later, it’s safe to assume that many people will continue to care about hygiene and self care as a COVID-19 vaccine is not yet available.

If you are able to shift your website’s item focus or feel like completely changing your business to cater to one of these in-demand product categories, right now is probably the right time to make these ecommerce investments. You may have already heard of fashion design houses and breweries shifting their business to focus on using their materials to create face masks and disinfectants and sanitizer.

Remember: the great thing about utilizing dropshipping for ecommerce is that you can switch your product when you need to. Were you selling backpacks and gear for air travel but want to move over to electronic accessories for a safer long-term niche? Take some steps to shifting your business.

And if jumping niches is too much work, get in on our Premium Products service, where we send current in-demand products straight to your WordPress dashboard every week. It’s an easy and less-costly solution to help you bring relevant traffic to your website.

Giving freebies

Ecommerce investments: giving freebies

Grooming company Clark’s Botanicals gives away sanitizing spray.

Empathy goes a long way right now. If you have ways to give away essentials as a gesture of kindness, definitely include them with your orders. Whether it’s a roll of toilet paper or hand sanitizer (as shown with Clark’s Botanicals), an act of care for your customers can make a deep connection in a time where safety is of the utmost importance. Having a giving heart is one thing ecommerce business owners should invest in right now.

Sleepwear brand Magnolia Lounge gives away face masks with a minimum purchase amount.

We also see brands going to face-mask route, like Austrailian unisex PJ brand Magnolia Lounge giving away a ten-pack of face masks with every purchase over $99.

Being charitable

Ecommerce investments: raising awareness

Adidas dedicates a page on its website to coronavirus.

Aside from garnering sales, another essential way to build a responsible and conscious brand today is to be socially aware. If there are organizations your brand can donate a percentage of every purchase to (or just a lump-sum amount to) for fighting COVID-19, that’s something you can consider.

You may not be a global multi-million-dollar brand like Adidas, but you can take cues from how the company dedicated to building awareness towards giving back to everyday people.

Adidas utilizes a fundraiser and purchase-and-donate item to raise money.

You can also invest in working with fundraising organizations to give back to people in need. Start by doing some research on sources such as Give.org or Charity Navigator.org for what suits your business, and get in touch with someone from the organization to set up your cause. We show here how Adidas launched a fundraising campaign and created masks that could sell and give a portion back to a global organization.

All-time-favorites: ecommerce investments that bring benefits in a long term

Informative (and cool) social media content creation

Ecommerce investments: content creation

Crafting-goods store JOANN uploads a tutorial on mask-making at home.

Video has been the king of digital entertainment for over the past two decades now. Great, engaging video is essential for any brand’s social media efforts. But during a time where more and more people are turning to platforms such as YouTube to escape the everyday, there’s an opportunity to reach consumers with branded content that helps them stay safe, connected, and occupied during lockdowns.

We show here how American-based crafts store JOANN used a DIY face-mask tutorial to help people create their own personal protection during the coronavirus pandemic. The video is helpful to people of all ages and backgrounds, but is particularly great (coincidentally) for the chain store’s demographic of crafty creatives.

On Instagram, Universal Studios Hollywood announced a watch party to engage with fans.

Another example shows how Los Angeles-based theme park Universal Studios Hollywood organized a live watch party for one of its big-hit films, 2015’s “Jurassic World.”

The amusement park lit up its Twitter account with engaging content during the party.

By utilizing play-by-play reactions to scenes, cool GIFs, and polls to interact with fans of the epic dinosaur movie and fans of the theme park, Universal Studios Hollywood created a fun escape from the mundane everyday.

Wondering how online business owners should invest in social media content right now? Well, to create a high-quality video like JOANN or rich interactive content like Universal, you’ve got to spend money on a good camera and have a good team (or a solo social media maven) to produce this content. And money aside, time is also an investment into planning these types of cool bits. Furthermore, creativity is also an investment of yours, and it is important to come up with relevant content during this time.

Customer service improvement

U.K.-based retailer Tesco responds to a customer complaint.

It seems like a no-brainer, but during a time where online orders and to-go orders have surged  a whopping 248% according to Digital Commerce 360, it’s more important than ever to emphasize good customer service. Whether you can afford to hire a customer service team or just have two people handling inquiries and issues, now is not the time to cut back on this line of service and work. Being responsive and helpful go a long way in earning customer trust and loyalty during a time where many people are still trying to make ends meet and just trying to get essentials (or non-essentials to stay sane) home.

We show above how England’s superstore chain Tesco handled a customer complaint on Twitter about a poor delivery experience and communicated clearly to resolve the issue.

A stable and secure server

Security badges are essential, like these on our AliDropship mainpage.

As online sales surge and traffic surge, you want to make sure the website server you have is in good shape. And in general, it’s smart to perform data and server/host checks regularly to maintain website health:

  • Whether manually or by cloud, backing up your website daily is crucial to restore data and files in case of a crash. We recommend setting automatic backups once a day.
  • Check your data capacity. If you’re experiencing slow load times or errors, your data could be running low if your website is very congested. You can optimize by reducing image size or for more data, by upgrading your data plan with your server.
  • Maintain your website’s security by taking care of your security certificates. Letting these expire will not only leave customers on edge, but put your website at risk for hacking and third-party attacks.
  • Update your plugins for optimal website performance. Platforms like WordPress have auto-updating of plugins, but it pays to be extra careful in case you are utilizing something that doesn’t automatically update.

If you have to pay more money for a more comprehensive or robust security package or server data, do so. These components are what make your website possible to run, so it’s wise to invest in these and not skimp.

SUMMARY: Even in the most uncertain of times, the basics of running an online business remain: make the experience enjoyable with good customer service, relevant products and solutions, and engaging content. You may have to skew your business product or rework your offerings, but it may be necessary to ensure enough profit. It’s also a good time to consider donating to relief organizations to build a responsible brand that will resonate with people. Focus your ecommerce investments on maintaining a great customer experience with added compassion and empathy for success that can withstand anything going on in the world.

subscription business model

Well, are you interested in increasing the income from your online store, but it’s the first time you’ve heard about the subscription business model? If so, that’s all right. In this article, we are going to tell you in detail what it is and how it works.

The subscription business model is a scheme in which a consumer pays a recurring price for using the product or service each week, month, year, etc.

How does it work in practice? In fact, there is nothing challenging about it.

Let’s try to describe the subscription business model in the service sector. For example, you’re running a TV channel that provides its viewers with early access to new movies.

Actually, it’s a little bit annoying to search for and buy a new movie since it takes you time and effort. So you offer your clients the access to new movies and series in exchange for a subscription fee. And everybody’s happy!

Certainly, this scheme can vary and it depends upon the niche you deal with. However, its basis is all the same for both Internet service providers and car manufacturers.

And now you may ask a reasonable question: why is this model so profitable for you as a business owner? And why will a consumer overpay for this?

Here comes one of the main advantages of the subscription business model: both business owners and consumers can significantly benefit from it!

Subscription business model for a dropshipping store

get extra income

At first sight, it’s hard to imagine how you can apply the subscription business model to your dropshipping store. However, experience has shown that it not only works, but it can also bring you a lot.

For instance, you’re running a jewelry dropshipping store. If so, it’s definitely the one for the subscription business model!

You can easily offer your customers the following service: a subscription to jewelry from your stylist!

How is this subscription service going to work?

So you launch an ad campaign that is to tell your potential customers that each month your highly-qualified stylist is going to choose a set of cool jewelry. And those who subscribe to this service will receive such new sets on a monthly basis. Great, isn’t it?

For a customer, it means convenience and effortless reception of hype and trendy products on a regular basis, and for you it means a stable and predictable source of extra income.

Subscription business model: what are the benefits?

subscription business model

Now you know well how the subscription business model works with dropshipping. However, you may ask if it’s profitable for a business owner? Let’s take a look at the benefits this strategy gives you!

  • Predictable income

The subscription business model can provide you with an income on a permanent basis.

For example, you are selling a particular product. When an Internet user comes to your website and makes a purchase from you, it’s a one-time benefit for you. You can’t be sure that this very person will come back later and make one purchase in your online store. You should definitely make an effort for this.

The main advantage of the subscription business model is that it takes you an effort to attract a customer only once. Then, this person is supposed to bring you money on a long-term basis. In fact, you can benefit from this over months or years, as long as the product you offer is interesting for your clients.

  • Familiar terms

Here comes one more advantage of this model: it’s well known to people from lots of countries. So you don’t need to explain how it works to your customers.

Actually, this business model is widespread all over the world. And nowadays it’s used for business expansion not only by smartphone app developers, but even airlines!

For you as a business owner, it’s essential because your potential clients know all the advantages of subscription products and services. So you’re highly likely to convert as many website visitors as possible without extra effort!

  • Chance to keep working with a client

What’s more, please pay attention to the fact that this model lets you keep working with a client. It means you can try to interest them in other products or services and increase your income!

So we have highlighted the main advantages of the subscription business model. However, in practice, there are a lot more of them!

Well, should you leave all the rest and set up the this model in your dropshipping store? Actually, that’s not a good idea to solely rely on the subscription business model when running your dropshipping store. We recommend that you treat it more as a source of additional income, and consider some important aspects of this strategy.

What to pay special attention to when setting up the subscription business model?

get extra income

To make the most out of this strategy, take into account the following:

  • Your business niche

The most important thing for you as a business owner is to understand that the subscription business model can’t suit all the niches. The following niches suit this model perfectly: makeup, shaving stuff, perfumery, stationery, accessories, etc.

  • Getting customers

Right, your customers will bring you profit on a long-term basis, but you need to attract them, at first.

How to do this? Since the subscription business model is widespread all over the world, you should understand there is a high competitiveness. However, if you ensure an interesting product at a reasonable price (meanwhile, profitable for you), you are highly likely to succeed!

  • Rate of return

Now let’s talk about expenses and income. How much should your subscription cost to remain lucrative for you?

Obviously, this subscription should pay off as soon as possible. But please pay attention to the fact that it should be not only profitable for you, but also appealing for your potential clients.

So we believe that the cost to engage customers and buy the very product should be paid off in no more than 3 month. Otherwise, you risk a lot.

If you wonder why it’s going to be unprofitable for you, don’t remember that you also need to keep your clients.

  • Customer retention

As we have already mentioned, you need to keep your clients subscribed to your service at least for several months in order to pay off your expenses.

That’s why you should pay special attention to the selection of products for your service: offer something new, improve the quality, etc.

  • Shipping

You need to find one or several products you’re going to provide your clients with. So why does shipping matter a lot?

In fact, small stuff costs a penny. So they are extremely lucrative in terms of the subscription business model. However, their shipping costs often exceed their initial price.

And if you are going to offer your clients one product, it’s not so important. But if we speak about a set of products, it would be a great idea to find a supplier that has a wide range of products. In that case, you can try to cut down shipping costs.

Subscription business model: final thoughts

So let’s sum up why the this model can be lucrative for you.

  • Whom does the subscription business model suit more?

It is supposed to suit those entrepreneurs who look for ways to get additional sources of income and want to make the most of their businesses. However, if you want to build your dropshipping business solely on the subscription model, please note that it’s not a good idea.

  • How profitable can the subscription business model be for a business owner?

It can serve you as a stable source of income on a long-term basis. All you need to do is to offer an interesting product at a relatively low price.

  • Which niches suit the subscription business model more?

If we speak about the subscription business model, not all the niches can suit it perfectly. You can easily rely on it if you deal with the products your customers have to permanently resupply: makeup, jewelry, shaving stuff, etc.

  • How fast should the subscription pay off?

In fact, the sooner the better. But please note that if it takes you more than 3 month, you risk a lot.

So if you’re an experienced dropshipper and you’re eager to make the most of your business, the subscription business model can be an interesting solution to diversify your offering. Just pay special attention to the aspects we highlighted, and you’re good to go!

And if you still miss a chance to become a 100% owner of a lucrative business, it’s high time for you to start your dropshipping journey!
